Full Name
Tommy Greenwell
Job Title
Co-owner
Company
Greenwell Farms
Description
“The best part of my day is waking up to a fresh cup of Kona coffee,” said Tom Greenwell, co-owner of Greenwell Farms. And his cup of coffee is about as fresh as it gets. Greenwell Farms is in Kona, Hawaii, and Tom starts the day sipping his own premium product.
Greenwell Farms started in 1985 when Tom’s dad, a rancher, decided to become a coffee farmer. After his father passed away, Tom took over the operation and grew the company to become one of the largest farming and coffee operations in Kona, a region that produces some of the most expensive coffee in the world.
Tom has also been known throughout the Kona Coffee farming community as one of the biggest innovators of equipment, farming practices and new plant development that have been adopted throughout all of Hawaii and recognized world-wide. Tom is a past president of the Hawaii Coffee Association and has been recognized by the State of Hawaii for his efforts and contributions to protecting the value and integrity of Hawaiian Coffee as an agricultural priority.
“It all starts in the ground,” Tom said. “We are a seed to cup organization. It’s a family affair; my sister is co-owner, and my wife and brother-in-law are involved in the business. Having a successful family business on land that has been handed down in our family since 1850 is very special to me,” Tom said.
Today, Greenwell Farms encompasses 200 acers with farms from 1250 foot to 2800 foot elevations.
